Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the country’s Paralympic team, which involves 14 athletes set to compete in six sporting events at this year's Paralympic Games in Paris starting next month, represented the “unbroken and invincible spirit of Georgian people”, in comments at a send-off ceremony of the squad.

Kobakhidze wished the team “successful competition” at the Games, scheduled to run between August 28-September 8, and noted they had a “great mission” at the competition as they “embody the best qualities of our people”.

This is a great honour that you have earned through selfless work, and you have been able to reach impossible sports heights. You overcame such challenges that may have been unimaginable to many at first, but with your talent and willpower you showed everyone nothing is impossible, and any result can be achieved”, he said.

You are already a winner at these Paralympic Games, but obviously we need great achievements from you, and I am sure these Games will be successful for our team”, he added.

The Government will set prize money for medals won by the team, similarly to the Olympic team competing at this year’s Summer Games, the PM said.

Those claiming gold medals will be awarded ₾1 million ($368,355,40), silver medal winners will receive ₾500,000 ($184,177,70) and bronze medallists will be granted ₾250,000 ($92,088,85).
