Georgian parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 26, were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and John DiPirro, the Director of the International Republican Institute’s Georgia Programme.

Kobakhidze pledged his Government would “continue to ensure” that the elections were conducted in a “free, fair, and democratic environment”, the Government Administration said.

The Government head noted a number of international organisations had been invited to observe the elections - through both short-term and long-term missions - in order to “maximise the transparency” of the electoral process.

The meeting also highlighted the need to reduce domestic political polarisation to ensure a “calm and healthy environment” for voting.
