The Georgian national team forward Georges Mikautadze is among six players who have ended the European Football Championship this month as top scorers of the tournament and awarded the competition’s Golden Boot.
With three goals scored at the Euros, Mikautadze joined Jamal Musiala of Germany, Cody Gakpo of the Netherlands, Dani Olmo of Spain, Ivan Schranz of Slovakia and Harry Kane of England in the final player classification.
Helping the national team in its impressive debut at the tournament, Mikautadze played all four of the squad’s matches - the group stage games against Turkey, Czechia and Portugal, and the last 16 match against eventual champions Spain. He also led the scorers’ chart until the round of 16.
Georgia were defeated by Spain in the playoffs after qualifying for the round as the best third-placed team in the group stage, where they finished behind Portugal and Turkey in Group F following their defeat of the former 2-0 in the final game of the stage.
Mikautadze, whose value on the Transfermarkt website stands at EUR 15 mln, is playing for FC Metz in the second division of the French league.
Recent reports have claimed an agreement between AS Monaco FC of the French top-tier championship and the striker, with the club reportedly also sending an official transfer proposal to Metz.
