Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said “liberal fascism” would be “defeated” in Georgia following the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26, adding next year “should be the year of complete liberation of Georgian public, Georgian state and Georgian politics” from the alleged phenomenon.

Kobakhidze also added it was “regrettable that liberal fascism is being purposefully and in a coordinated manner funded from foreign sources” by alleged donor organisations, which he said was a “crime against the Georgian public”.

He also claimed a “liberal-fascist escapade carried out” against Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze.

He said the “author of this attack was the so-called sincere young man, who later by chance turned out to be an activist of the [opposition] United National Movement [party] - in particular, the leader of Nabiji, one of the non-governmental organisations of the National Movement”.

“It is interesting that this organisation is financed by specific foreign donors”, the Government head added.

The PM further called on opponents of the recently adopted controversial law on transparency of foreign influence to “curb their emotions and accept transparency, which has been one of the key European principles since 1945 and recognised as such”.

Kobakhidze further expressed his confidence that “Georgian politics, public and state will be free from liberal fascism”, pledging his Government would “do everything” for the purpose.
