Georgian FM meets US Under Secretary of State, emphasises “importance” of strategic partnership

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday said he had held a “very interesting exchange of views” with the United States Under Secretary of State John Bass and emphasised the “importance” of strategic partnership with the US on the sidelines of the NATO Summit taking place in Washington this week.

In his social media post, the top Georgian diplomat also said he reaffirmed the country's commitment to the European Union and its “Euro-Atlantic future” to the US official, expressing “readiness to further strengthen [the] ties”.

In comments to Georgian media in Washington on Wednesday, Darchiashvili said integration into NATO was “one of the main and clear foreign policy priorities” of his Government.

He also said he was holding meetings to discuss relations between Georgia and the EU at the Summit.
