Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Wednesday met with Hadja Lahbib, the Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade within the framework of the NATO 75th anniversary Summit taking place in Washington from Tuesday to Thursday.
The meeting focused on the importance of the NATO Summit and topics included in the bloc's agenda, emphasising the global security challenges and ways to deal with them, the Foreign office said.
The officials reviewed the main aspects of cooperation between Georgia and NATO and the country's integration into the alliance.
The diplomats highlighted Georgia as an “important and reliable partner” of the alliance in the Black Sea region, pointing out the country's contribution to strengthening the security of the Euro-Atlantic area.
The foreign office said the Ministers had also discussed the European integration process of Georgia, noting that the granting of the European Union membership candidate status in 2023 “took Georgia's cooperation with the EU to a new stage”.
Darchiashvili also highlighted the “ongoing processes and challenges” of Georgia's integration into the EU and the country’s “readiness” for further cooperation with the bloc.
