Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the police, which “is the protector of the safety of every citizen, highly professional, responsible and always in the process of development”, was a guarantee of the strength and security of the country, a “necessary” condition for its progress.

In his speech at an event dedicated to the Police Day, Kobakhidze said the reputation of police officers, the “special” trust and respect of the citizens towards them represented the “most important” public achievement.

As a result of the reforms carried out in recent years, with the work and enthusiasm of each of you, the Georgian police has been established as a modern institution of the highest standards”, Kobakhidze said.

By maintaining law and order, by being loyal to the citizens and the country, by daily work, often at the risk of your own life, by caring for the life and safety of others, you are providing an invaluable service to the public safety and the well-being of our homeland”, he told the police officers.

The Government head also paid tribute to the professionals who had died while fulfilling their professional duties.

In the recently developed processes [the public protests against the controversial domestic law on transparency of foreign influence] in our country, you once again showed high professionalism and patriotism. I have said many times, and I would like to emphasise it once again that today the Georgian police operate at a higher standard than the European and American ones. Once again, thank you very much for this”, the PM noted.

Kobakhidze also extended his gratitude to law enforcement officers for their “invaluable efforts, professionalism and patriotism” and pledged his Government's support.
