Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday met Telmo Faria, the President of the Committee of European Affairs of Portuguese Parliament, to discuss existing relations between the two countries.
The Georgian Parliament said the meeting, held as a part of an official visit of a Georgian delegation to the country, also discussed possibilities of strengthening parliamentary ties between the states, as well as matters of Georgia's integration into the European Union and NATO.
The body added the members of the delegation informed their Portuguese counterparts about the “difficult situation” in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and “growing hybrid threats” from the country.
The meeting also covered Black Sea security, with the officials highlighting Georgia’s transit potential, which they said could play an “important role” in ensuring European security.
