David Songulashvili, the Chair of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday met Hassan bin Abdulla Al-Ghanim, the Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar, to discuss deepening of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Georgian Parliament said the meeting, held as a part of Songulashvili’s official visit to the country, emphasised the importance of investment and trade relations as well as development of joint cooperation, with the officials also discussing existing challenges in the wider region.
The body added the parties also reviewed the importance of parliamentary relations in promoting negotiations regarding “problematic matters” and their peaceful resolutions.
Songulashvili said the meeting with Al-Ghanim pointed out the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts in the world for the development and economic progress of countries, and noted Georgia was “ready for peace talks in any format” to ensure peace in the wider region.
He added the Qatari side had once again expressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within the internationally recognised borders.
