Georgian Economy Minister: “regular participation” in Qatar Economic Forum important for deepening economic, political relations with Persian Gulf countries

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Wednesday said the country’s “regular participation” in the Qatar Economic Forum was “very important” for further deepening economic and political relations with the Persian Gulf countries and creating perspectives for the attraction of investors and trade partners from the region.

The international economic forum, organised by Bloomberg, is being held in Qatar for the third time, with Georgia participating in the forum at the highest level, Davitashvili said, stressing the country’s delegation had discussed the possibility of signing free trade agreements with the ministers of economy of the Persian Gulf countries. He also emphasised that Georgia had already completed negotiations on a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates, the Economy Ministry said.

He said the PM had discussed the geopolitical situation, including Georgia’s challenges and opportunities in terms of development and security, the Economy Minister added. 

Promoting trade relations, cooperation in transport, logistics, energy and telecommunication, as well as digital development and tourism, were also reviewed between the countries during the panel discussion, the Minister noted.
