Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze  at a meeting with local media representatives on Friday said his Government was “ready to establish” the relations between Georgia and the European Union, and the United States “even closer”.

The PM noted the Georgian government had an “absolutely open policy” with the countries of the European Union, as well as with the US.

Our position is clear - we demand even more relations, even closer cooperation, although, unfortunately, there is a certain restrained position, which may have its reasons, but we cannot call it an anti-Georgian mood. On the contrary, we have an absolutely open policy. We are ready to make the relations between Georgia and the European Union, Georgia and the US even closer. The more steps are taken from the other side, the better. This is our mood and position", Kobakhidze said.

He also further pointed out that his Government calls on international partners to “ensure as much as possible” the rapprochement of Georgia with both the USA and the EU.

Our request to the US is to ensure visa liberalisation for our citizens. I'm sure it won't burden the USA, also sign a free trade agreement, and ensure direct flights between Georgia and America. As for the European Union, our call is to open negotiations with Georgia in December," the PM added.
