The Special Investigation Service on Tuesday said it had launched an investigation into an assault on Giorgi Kldiashvili, the Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information and the Formula TV camera crew earlier today.

According to the media reports, Kldiashvili and the Formula TV camera crew were verbally and physically assaulted during an interview by an unknown person near the Swedish Embassy in Tbilisi.

Recently, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani said the attacks on people for having “different or critical opinions” were “inadmissible and unacceptable”, and called on the Service to conduct “a timely and effective” investigation into the case and take “strict legal measures” against the liable persons.
