Georgian FM to visit Brussels to mark 20th anniversary of EU enlargement

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili is set to participate in an informal meeting of the General Affairs Council in Brussels to mark the 20th anniversary of the 2004 enlargement, when 10 new member states joined the European Union.

At the invitation of the Council of the EU president country Belgium, Darchiashvili will attend the solemn ceremony dedicated to the anniversary with foreign ministers of the EU member states and countries with a European perspective, the Foreign Ministry said.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Georgian FM is also set to hold meetings with his Belgian and Luxembourg counterparts, Hadja Lahbib and Xavier Bettel, as well as with Věra Jourová, the Vice-President of the European Commission.

Darchiashvili will discuss Hungary's future presidency of the Council of the EU with Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs János Bóka. He is also scheduled to meet Anthony Whelan, the Acting Head of the European Commission President’s Cabinet and Gert Jan Koopman, the Commission’s Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.
