Law enforcement officers have arrested 18 individuals, including eight drug dealers, on drug-related charges for cases spanning over a recent period in the capital Tbilisi, the south-eastern region of Kvemo Kartli and western regions of Imereti, Adjara, Guria and Samegrelo.

The investigation established that the detainees, which included both Georgian and foreign citizens, had been involved in offences including illegal purchase, storage and selling of “large and especially large amounts” of drugs, as well as illegal purchase, possession and sale of marijuana.

The body also said law enforcement had seized marijuana, MDMA, Alpha PVP, Methadone, heroin, Buprenorphine, Subotex and electronic scales during searches of the individuals, their vehicles and residential houses.

The offences are punishable by 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
