Police arrest 9 on drug violations in capital, western regions of Georgia

Georgian police on Thursday said law enforcement officers had arrested nine individuals, including five foreign nationals, on drug-related charges over a recent period in capital Tbilisi and western regions of Imereti and Adjara.
 

The release said the detained individuals were involved in offences including illegal purchase and storage of “large and especially large amounts” of drugs, attempts of drug smuggling, illegal purchase, possession and selling of marijuana, as well as planting and cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs.
 

Officers also detained a foreign citizen carrying 300 grams of heroin into the country concealed on his body, the release added.
 

They also seized MDMA, ecstasy, marijuana, Alpha PVP, Psilocin, cocaine, Methadone, Amphetamine, LSD and cannabis during searches of the individuals, their residential houses and a farm of one of the accused.
 

The offences are punishable by 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
