Police arrest 11 on drug violations across Georgia

Georgian police on Friday said law enforcement officers had arrested 11 individuals, including foreign nationals, on drug-related charges over a recent period in capital Tbilisi, eastern Kakheti and western Adjara and Guria regions.
 

The release said the detained individuals were involved in offences including illegal purchase, storage and selling of “large and especially large amounts” of drugs, illegal purchase, possession and selling of marijuana, as well as planting and cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs.
 

The body said it had also detained a foreign citizen who operated a drug store via a social media application and sold marijuana together with their partner, adding the officers had seized marijuana and a plant containing cannabis during searches of the individuals and their residential houses.
 

They also seized heroin, Alpha PVP, Buprenorphine, marijuana and a large amount of a plant containing cannabis it said the charged individuals had cultivated in “special greenhouses and warehouses” arranged in their residential spaces. 
 

The offences are punishable by 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
