The Georgian foreign office on Monday welcomed an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on launching a process of border delimitation, noting Georgia was “interested in securing lasting peace” in the South Caucasus region.
In a social media post, the body reaffirmed its “strong commitment” to contributing to a “peace and trust-building process” between the two neighbouring states.
In the deal, the parties agreed to return four border villages - which Baku had referred to as “non-enclaves” - to Azerbaijani authority. The border section in question is located between the Gazakh district of Azerbaijan and Tavush region of Armenia.
The villages are Baganis Ayrım, Ashagy Askipara, Kheyrimli and Gizilhajili.
