Georgian Parliament hosts 63rd meeting of PABSEC’s Committee for Legal Affairs and Int’l Cooperation

Georgian Parliament is hosting the 63rd meeting of the Committee for Legal Affairs and International Cooperation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation in Kachreti village of eastern Georgia's Kakheti region, discussing the role of the legislative bodies in promoting intercultural dialogue and tolerance in combating hate speech.

At the opening of the meeting on Saturday, Irakli Mezurnishvili, the Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation to the PABSEC, said the cooperation of the parliaments of the Black Sea region was “crucial” in solving “current challenges”.

Sharing our coordinated efforts and experience will be extremely valuable. As parliamentarians, based on our unique position, we have the opportunity to make a positive impact and promote mutual understanding in our diverse societies”, Mezurnishvili noted.

The participants of the meeting were also addressed by Asaf Hajiyev, the PABSEC Secretary General and Ramaz Nikoleishvili, a member of the Georgian Parliamentary Delegation at the Assembly.

In regional terms, Georgia is one of the most important countries. By coming here, the representatives of all countries will be able to see the progress of the country, [and] the steps being taken to make prosperity accessible to all citizens”, he added.

The 63rd meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly reviewed reports and recommendations for the spring session of the PABSEC General Assembly in May.
