National Food Agency to conduct lab research on agrochemicals, pesticides to improve hazelnut production, sales control

The National Food Agency of Georgia is planning to conduct laboratory research on up to 500 samples of agrochemicals and pesticides to improve the efficiency of hazelnut production and measures against stink bugs and enhance control of sales facilities throughout the country, the body said on Thursday.

It added all sales facilities offering agrochemicals and pesticides as part of the state programme for the promotion of hazelnut production were required to maintain a record of sales and adhere to the sales conditions.

During a working meeting at the management centre for combating stink bugs, deputy heads of the Agency, Giorgi Iakobashvili and Zurab Lipartia, discussed the control mechanisms of specialised sales facilities involved in the hazelnut production promotion programme.

Improving control mechanisms of agrochemicals and pesticides sales facilities is important to increase the effectiveness of both hazelnut production and measures against stink bugs. Other pest diseases also cause damage to hazelnuts, which can be prevented with high-quality chemicals”, Lipartia said.

The promotion programme provides a subsidy to citizens who own hazelnut orchards between 0.2-3 hectares of land, with a ₾500 ($187.28) subsidy per hectare.
