A children’s nail polish set, a xylophone and eight types of slimes are among 77 toys suspended from sale on the domestic market after an inspection revealed lead, peeling paint and other issues with the items, local media outlet Interpressnews reported on Monday.
IPN said the Market Surveillance Agency of the Ministry of Economy had found a "number of inconsistencies" in the toys offered by 31 sellers.
The inspectors found 191.8 mg/kg of lead in a nail polish set from the MEI BO KAI brand, which it said was 95.9 times above the limit permitted by regulations.
Another laboratory examination found paint was peeling off a xylophone musical toy by the brand Mut, which the agency said could cause blockage of upper airways in children using it.
Eight types of slimes were found to contain boron migration above the upper limits set by regulations, with the body noting some of the samples had shown the consistency exceeding the set amount by “10 and even 30 times”.
In addition, an inspection of 13 different toys intended for children under the age of three found the items had small moving parts and therefore posed a risk to children if swallowed.
The Agency also said it had inspected 8,146 toys from 45 sellers in regular monitoring efforts between 2021-2022.
