Georgia has chosen the “right path” in wine production by focusing on the quality and not the quantity, Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida said in his comments at the ministerial of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, in which his Georgian counterpart Otar Shamugia also participated.
On the sidelines of the ministerial, held in the northern Italian city of Brescia and attended by the ministers and high-ranking officials from 40 countries, Lollobrigida thanked Shamugia for his participation and pointed out the important existing cooperation with the Georgian authorities.
Georgia is an important partner for us, with which we should further deepen cooperation in the direction of utilisation of specific markets and quality production”, the Italian Minister added.
He reaffirmed his readiness to “actively cooperate” with Georgia in wine production and other sectors, the Georgian Environment and Agriculture Ministry said.
In his turn, Shamugia highlighted the progress achieved by Georgia in winemaking over the last decade, while also emphasising that the country’s participation in the ministerial as a membership candidate country of the European Union was “a deserved success” for Georgia.
The Centenary of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine is celebrated with various events, including the ministerial, which was also attended by Levan Mekhuzla, the Head of the National Wine Agency of Georgia and Natalia Kordzaia, the Consulate General of the country in Milan.
