Georgian Parliament Committee chairs, EU PSC ambassadors discuss political processes, integration

The ongoing political processes in Georgia, the security challenges in the country and the integration into the European Union were discussed on Wednesday by Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s EU Integration Committee, Givi Mikanadze, the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and the ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU.

Botchorishvili said the meeting with the delegation of the EU PSC was “another expression of support” from the bloc’s member countries for Georgia, where the ambassadors confirmed their readiness to assist the country on its EU integration path.

Granting the EU membership candidate status to Georgia was highlighted as “a historic decision” based on the country’s achievements and the will of the Georgian people, Botchorishvili noted, adding the implementation of the European Commission’s priorities was also reviewed at the meeting.

It is important to continue progress in these directions, which will ultimately lead to Georgia’s EU membership”, she stressed following the meeting, which was also attended by the Georgian Ambassador to the EU Vakhtang Makharoblishvili.

Today, the ambassadors of the EU Political and Security Committee also held meetings with the representatives of the Georgian parliamentary opposition.
