MTA Director: Georgia secures its place on world map by hosting int’l winter championships

Irakli Burchuladze, the Director of Mountain Trails Agency of Georgia, on Saturday said the country had already secured its place on the world map along with other renowned countries in winter sports, including Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France, by hosting the fifth international championship.

In his comments to the media, on the sidelines of the Snowboard Junior World Championship in Gudauri, Burchuladze noted Georgia would continue to host the World Championships and World Cups in the winter resorts.

We once again proved that Georgia has the greatest potential in terms of mountaineering and skiing”, he added.

The MTA announced the first finals day winners - German Leon Ulbricht winning the first and French Julien Tomas and Aidan Chollet claiming second and third places in men’s individual competition.

In women’s individual competition, the winner of the tournament became the French Lea Casta, while Switzerland's Noemie Wiedmer claimed the second place, and France’s Lisa Borai Francesia - the third place.

Gudauri is hosting the Snowboard Junior World Championship on the weekend, with 90 athletes from 18 countries competing in the tournament.

The competition, organised by MTA, features athletes under 21 from Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, the United States and Georgia.
