Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted a “truly historic” victory after the national football team on Tuesday secured a spot in the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament with its defeat of Greece in Tbilisi.
In his remarks with students in the western Georgian city of Kutaisi, Kobakhidze said the win showed “where there is love for the country, fighting spirit and faith in victory, everything is possible”, in comments on the result that saw the team qualify for its first major football competition.
Our guys gave us a truly historic victory. Emotions have not slowed down yet and will not slow down for a long time. I would like to wish you great success and victories in your professional life in the future”, Kobakhidze told the students.
The Government head also highlighted the role of the Georgian Football Federation in the outcome, after the European governing body UEFA on Thursday said Georgia’s Euro 2024 qualification was a “culmination” of years of football development, planning and innovation by the national Federation.
