Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said an internship programme allowing 3,000 graduates to gain work experience across various state agencies would be launched this year.

Kobakhidze added the initiative would start with a pilot programme, with the internships set to run over four months.

The main task of the internship programme is to make it easier for graduates to enter professional life, which will help them in further career growth”, he said at a meeting with students from regional universities at Akaki Tsereteli State University in the western city of Kutaisi.

The Prime Minister said the Government would work with local self-governing bodies and the private sector to ensure graduates were admitted to workplaces, and added the programme would be implemented on the basis of consultations with students and taking into account their feedback.

We do not want to develop the programme unilaterally. The main beneficiaries of this programme are graduates, students, and if we do not hear from you on how to better shape this programme, the start may not be successful. That is why we want to consult and get advice from you”, he told students.

The internship programme is based on a law passed by the Parliament last year.
