The Georgian team on Monday returned from the United States Air Force and Marine Corps Trials, an international competition for injured servicemembers, with 28 medals under their belt after marking a successful appearance at the competition.
After collecting 12 gold, 11 silver and five bronze medals at the event, the team was welcomed back to Georgia by Irakli Chikovani, the Minister of Defence, and Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Chief of the country’s Defence Forces.
Our military once again showed their fighting spirit and successfully presented the name of Georgia in the international arena. The state and society are obliged to support them and create decent conditions for them. By supporting wounded and injured military personnel, we demonstrate our commitment to the values the health of our fighters has sacrificed”, Chikovani said.
Hosted between March 3-16 at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, the event involved competition in sitting volleyball, para-basketball, pistol and rifle shooting, archery, athletics, rowing on exercise equipment, cycling and swimming in team and individual sports.
The Georgia para athletes participated for the second time in the competition, which aims to support wounded servicemembers and use sports in the process of their recovery.
