The delegation of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, led by the Committee Chair Nikoloz Samkharadze, on Tuesday discussed political and economic ties with Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu.

The “pivotal role” of Romania’s “steadfast” support to Georgia’s European aspirations and its integration process to the European Union was highlighted by the officials, the Parliament press office said.

The sides reviewed the future steps within the existing strategic partnership between the two countries, while also focusing on the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions and matters concerning the non-recognition policy of the country’s occupied territories.

The conversation touched on the economic relations between Georgia and Romania, with the parties also referring to the jointly initiated Black Sea submarine cable project, a new transmission route to deliver green energy from the South Caucasus to Europe, as a priority for both nations.

Following the meeting, Samkharadze said the Romanian FM had “assured” the Georgian side that “within a few days” Romania would officially send a strategic partnership action plan for enhancing ties between the two countries.
