Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday highlighted “engaging and fruitful” discussion with all parliamentary stakeholders and civil society representatives that reviewed work for the fulfilment of the conditions outlined for the country to open European Union accession talks.
The meeting with domestic opposition and members of the civil sector discussed the work for meeting the nine conditions outlined by the European Commission in November for the outcome.

“Engaging and fruitful discussion on EU’s 9 steps with all parliamentary stakeholders and civil society representatives on a wide range of reforms agenda in parliamentary oversight, electoral process, judiciary, further strengthening institutional capabilities of selected agencies, etc. Georgia is bold on its EU membership road”, Papuashvili said in a social media message on the meeting.
The European Commission recommended the European Council in November to grant Georgia the EU membership candidate status with the conditions that range from efforts to combat disinformation and foreign information manipulation about the EU and its values, to further alignment of the country’s foreign and security policies with the bloc, to reforms in the judiciary, electoral and human rights areas.
