Under the leadership of Georgian captain Vazha Jangveladze, sailors executed a rescue mission in the Mediterranean Sea, saving 34 lives, the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia said on Tuesday.
The Agency noted the vessel Lider Halil, a container ship currently sailing under the flag of Panama, had received a distress call from the rescue service of Crete on Saturday, alerting them to a migrant boat in need of urgent assistance.

Captain Jangveladze “swiftly” initiated a search and rescue operation that spanned three hours and with the efforts of the crew all thirty-four individuals were successfully rescued, the body emphasised.
Along with the Captain, the crew of 14 people included two other Georgian sailors - Senior Assistant Rodam Putkaradze and Second Engineer Jivan Gurgenidze.
