The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency on Tuesday said 18,138 concentrations of economic agents had been registered in the country in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Agency said the annual turnover of the parties participating in registered unions had not met the criteria necessary for the origination of the obligation of prior notification in the part of the annual turnover in 18,130 cases.

It added eight cases met the criteria, with three of them falling under exceptions defined by the competition law, and one categorised under the competence of a relevant regulatory body.

In the remaining four cases, the body said the entities “supposedly had an obligation to notify the Agency of the concentration in advance”, with the state institution launching proceedings with regard to the economic agents.

The Agency said last year unions of 40,597 companies registered in Georgia had been verified, while only nine concentrations had been approved.
