Georgian-German economic relations, priority areas of cooperation and ways of further developing them were discussed on Tuesday by Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Robert Habeck, the Vice Chancellor of Germany on the sidelines of ITB Berlin, a major tourism fair showcasing Georgia as the Host Country in the German capital.
Davitashvili highlighted the significance of the Host Country status for Georgia for further development of the domestic tourism sector and its better positioning in international markets, noting the Government considered Germany as one of the “important markets” for promoting Georgia’s tourism potential.
The officials also pointed out projects in the transport, communications and energy sectors that are aimed at a greater economic integration of Georgia into the European Union.
The Black Sea submarine electricity cable project - which is planned to connect the South Caucasus energy grid with the EU - and the importance of increasing the capacity of the Middle Corridor - a logistics route connecting Central Asia to Europe via Georgia - were also reviewed.
The officials noted Germany was one of the “major investors and the biggest supporter” of ongoing institutional reforms in Georgia.
