Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Monday credited the progress of the country’s tourism sector and the state’s “reliable partnership” as factors in it being granted the Host Country status for ITB Berlin, a major international tourism fair set to launch today in the German capital.

“Georgia by hosting the exhibition is making a vocal statement of having an ambition to be a successful tourist country”. Davitashvili said, noting the Government had made the “most original, creative and interesting” bid for the status.

The Minister also pointed out Georgia’s submission for the status competed against countries with “quite distinguished financial resources and ambition”.

ITB Berlin is a “very important” platform for achieving “actual results” in the tourism industry, the Minister said, adding the event would raise awareness about Georgia’s tourist potential.

The fair will be launched by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and other officials under the theme “Infinite Hospitality”, with a “brilliant and spectacular” ceremony scheduled to mark the occasion at the CityCube Berlin venue, before the fair hosts visitors between Tuesday and Thursday.
