A Georgian rescue dog received a special award for saving the life of a survivor of Turkey’s devastating earthquake, the Georgian Emergency Management Service said on Saturday.

The three-year-old dog named Tinto, who had found a survivor trapped in the mass of rubble after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, was awarded by Mamuka Sepiashvili, the Deputy Head of the Fire and Rescue Division.

Rescue dogs played an important role in the search and rescue efforts, helping around 200 Georgian professionals who, by the decision of the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, participated in the rescue operations and saved three people in Turkey’s city of Adıyaman, worst affected by the devastating quake and in Antakya, the capital of the southern Turkish province of Hatay that suffered major casualties and damage in the disaster, the Service said.
