Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday highlighted his Government’s steps for “ensuring peace, stability and high economic growth in the country” on the backdrop of challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
In remarks at an event summarising the work of the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Garibashvili noted the Government had ensured double-digit economic growth over the past two years.
Our Government has done everything so that we have peace, stability and high economic growth in the country today. You remember the huge losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic [and] then the geopolitical reality [of the Ukraine conflict], which is the most difficult. Despite these two major challenges, we have had double-digit economic growth for the past two years”, he told the audience.
The PM also stressed the role of NBG President Koba Gvenetadze in ensuring domestic economic stability and growth.
As a result of our coordinated work, as a result of the correct and effective steps taken by the Government [and the NBG President’s] very constructive approaches, we were able to close 2021 - the year during which some quite competent people believed the country was headed to a default - with a double-digit economic growth”, the head of the Government noted.
Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili also addressed the event that was attended by representatives of the executive and legislative authorities and diplomatic corps.
The Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and presidents of the national banks of Armenia and Moldova also spoke at the event through video links.
