Turkish interior and energy ministers on Friday praised the rescue efforts of Georgian professionals who joined the international relief work following the devastating earthquake of February 6 that killed more than 42,000 people in the country.

The Georgian Government Administration cited the Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soyluon saying the authorities of the country “feel the support of the Georgian people and the Georgian Government”.

Soyluon also said the ongoing visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Turkey was an “expression of Georgia’s support”.

“This is an exciting gesture, which has been really motivating for us, and we were really strengthened by [Georgian] support”, the Minister noted, thanking the rescue crews from Georgia, Prime Minister and his delegation, as well as citizens of the country “for expressing their support in these difficult days”.

“This is truly the case when we can say that a true friend is known in times of trouble”, Soylu added.

Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Dönmez also thanked the Georgian Government and the citizens for their support “on this difficult day”. He said Georgian crews had contributed “greatly” in rescuing victims of the earthquake.

“From the very first day, our fraternal country, Georgia, expressed the desire to help [and] sent a rescue team [...] Today, the Prime Minister of Georgia came to Hatay, the [province] most affected by the earthquake, and shared our pain”, Dönmez said.
