Ruling party head vows support to Ukrainian people on anniversary of Russian aggression

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday vowed his support to Ukraine and its people as the ongoing war in the country entered its second year.
In his remarks over the anniversary of the conflict, Kobakhidze called it a “great tragedy” that he said the Ukrainian people “did not deserve”.
As a result of the war, tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians have died, including - what is especially painful - more than 450 children. Sixteen million Ukrainians have become refugees and displaced persons. The war has destroyed Ukraine's economy and infrastructure”, the GD official said.
“Before the start of the war, we said that the international community should have done everything to prevent this war and avoid the greatest tragedy. However, unfortunately, Russian military aggression still took place”, Kobakhidze continued.
The party official highlighted the Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers were “heroically fighting for the independence and territorial integrity of their country”, expressing his respect for their “heroism and dedication” and wishing the country’s citizens “independence and restoration of territorial integrity”.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday expressed “full solidarity” of the Georgian Government with the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing war in the country, while saying the Ukrainian Government’s stance towards its Georgian counterpart “prevented” the latter from “participating in official formats” in support of the country.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said his country was “most supportive” to Ukraine, amid the latter’s defence from the Russian invasion, “considering the circumstances” related to the presence of Russian troops in Georgia’s occupied regions and a lack of “any international political or economic umbrella” protecting the country.
The Georgian Government has supported Ukraine “at all international levels” and will continue to do so on the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of the country, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili told a meeting of the Government on Monday.

Tbilisi’s hilltop TV tower overlooking Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, like the landmarks of different cities across the world, was illuminated in the national colours of Ukraine to mark the anniversary of the country’s ongoing defence from the Russian invasion.
The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to approve a resolution calling on Russia to “immediately, completely and unconditionally” withdraw all of its military forces from the Ukrainian territory, with Georgia among 141 countries voting in favour.
