Georgian Ambassador to Turkey Giorgi Janjgava on Thursday said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who is on a visit to Turkey, would travel to the southeastern city of Antakya, which has been heavily affected by the devastating earthquake of February 6 that killed more than 42,000 people.
Janjgava noted Garibashvili would have meetings with local authorities and other officials.
“The Prime Minister, together with the accompanying delegation, will travel to the disaster zone, the city of Antakya in Hatay Province, where the earthquake caused the greatest damage to the region”, Janjgava said.
A group of Georgian rescuers is present in this zone. [...] The total number of Georgian rescuers reached 200 people. The first rotation involved 112 professionals, before 85 more rescuers were added. Our heroic rescuers saved many lives”, he concluded.
Garibashvili on Thursday reaffirmed Georgia’s “solidarity and strong support” to Turkey and its people in a meeting with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
