The British company Steer is studying the potential of the airline sector of Georgia to offer recommendations for the future development of international and local airports in the country, the Ministry of Economy announced on Tuesday.

The company is involved in the work with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank, with Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili meeting company representatives today to discuss the assessment process.

A very important project is being implemented with the support of the ADB. Our country will have a unified, systematic vision of how airports should be developed for passenger and cargo transportation”, Kvrivishvili said in her comments.

The Minister also said the work would involve studying the possibility of “expanding domestic airports and identifying new locations”.

The Ministry said the study, which covers the period until 2032, would examine the current capacity of airports in the country, build future market demand projections, consider needs for possible expansion or relocation of the facilities and explore opportunities for launching new airports.
