Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his deputies on Friday briefed the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on efforts planned throughout 2023 to facilitate Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process.
The Government Administration said the meeting involved a discussion on last year’s “historic decision” by the European Council’s to grant Georgia a European perspective, and the Ministry’s work on consolidating international support for the integration ahead of the bloc’s upcoming decision on whether to grant the country its membership candidate status.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of large infrastructure projects for boosting the country’s transit potential, the PM’s role as a mediator for peace between the neighbouring countries of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the green energy deal signed in Bucharest last year to enable transit of energy to Europe via a number of countries including Georgia.
The officials stressed the Ministry was keeping the tasks of consolidating the international community for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Georgia and maintaining the topic high on the international agenda as “top priorities”.
In comments on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the officials stressed Georgia's “strong political, diplomatic and humanitarian support” to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in February 2022.
Darchiashvili noted the support had been manifested by both “practical support” in the bilateral format and the Government's co-sponsoring or joining of “all international resolutions” in support of Ukraine.
