The hilltop TV tower overlooking Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and the Adjarabet Arena stadium in the Black Sea city of Batumi were on Wednesday illuminated with the national colours of Turkey in a symbolic show of solidarity with the country following the earthquake that killed over 15,000 people this week.
The two landmarks were illuminated by authorities in the symbolic move, while local media said the latter venue was also being used as a collection point for humanitarian aid for those affected by the disaster, with the Adjara regional Government and Batumi City Hall involved in the effort.

Wednesday’s show of support follows the sending of Georgian rescue crews to Turkey in the aftermath of the earthquake, with 100 professionals from Georgia’s state services working to find survivors in the rubble in the city of Adiyaman in south-east Turkey, where they have already rescued two individuals.
The death toll from the disaster that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria has since Monday passed 15,000, with more than 12,800 killed in the former and over 3,000 in the latter country.
