A team of 40 rescuers from Georgia’s Emergency Situations Management Service will join their colleagues involved in the ongoing efforts in the aftermath of Monday’s earthquake in Turkey, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The group, which includes rescue dogs and their handlers, will join those who have been involved in the rescue operations in Turkey's southeastern Adıyaman province since the disaster struck.

Sixty Georgian rescuers were in the first group sent on the instructions of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Turkey to help with the efforts in the aftermath of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that has killed more than 8,500 people.

Working in the province under the management of Teimuraz Mgebrishvili, the head of the Service, they rescued a woman from the rubble of a residential house on Tuesday.
