Georgian President signs book of condolences at Turkish Embassy for deadly quake in Turkey

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Wednesday left a note in the book of condolences opened at the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi for the victims of the deadly earthquake that killed thousands in Turkey.

Zourabichvili extended her condolences to the Turkish Ambassador to Georgia, Ali Kaan Orbai and expressed Georgian people’s “firm” support and solidarity to Turkish people “in this particularly difficult time”. 

On behalf of the Georgian people and myself, I would like to express my deep sorrow for the heartbreaking tragedy that took place in Turkey”, Zourabichvili said.

She added she “strongly” believed that the country and its people would be able to overcome the consequences of the disaster with the unity and support of the international community.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck early on Monday near the city of Gaziantep, in southern Turkey, killing more than 9,000 people, among which are three Georgian citizens.
