Bidzina Ivanishvili, the former Prime Minister and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday was elected the honorary Chair of the GD party at the congress meeting of the ruling party.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the incumbent Chair of the Georgian Dream party, opened the congress meeting and announced the election of Ivanishvili, who had left the party and politics in 2021 by saying that his ‘mission has been accomplished’.
At the seventh congress meeting of the GD party, Kobakhidze presented the approved list of political council of the party, which includes 15 members.
He also thanked the newly elected honorary Chair Ivanishvili, on behalf of 42,000 members of the Georgian Dream party for his contributions to Georgia.
The businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili founded the Georgian Dream party in April 2012 to oppose Mikheil Saakashvili’s party United National Movement in Georgia’s parliamentary elections of 2012. The Georgian Dream coalition won with 54% of the votes.
Ivanishvili served as the PM of Georgia from October 25, 2012 to November 17, 2013 and resigned as he promised during his election campaign.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday claimed Bidzina Ivanishvili, the former Prime Minister and the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, had replaced a “bloody”, “anti-Western”, “anti-European regime” in Georgia led by the imprisoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili and the United National Movement party.

Former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili is going to become the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party again. Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili announced changes in the ruling party management today at the briefing.
He said, Bidzina Ivanishvili’s decision will have a positive influence on the country’s political life and will serve as a new stimulus for the party.
