The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia on Friday said New York City had hosted wine enthusiasts for a tasting of Saperavi and amber wines from the country with the support of the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
The Ministry said about 200 visitors included wine professionals, business and media, who were offered Georgian wines and dishes.
[They] received information about Georgian grape varieties, as well as the centuries-old history and culture of Georgia and Georgian winemaking, which is especially important for increasing awareness and sales of Georgian wine in one of the strategic markets”, the body said.
The event was hosted by the contractor company Saperika 2022, established in the US with the purpose of promoting Georgian vine and wine varieties.
The Ministry also highlighted promotions run in the US throughout the past year with the support of the National Wine Agency had included international exhibitions, wine tasting events as well as a media campaign.
In the latter, the promotion was featured in the CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Men's Journal, Imbibe, Wine-Searcher, SOMM TV, Forbes and Wine Enthusiast outlets.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday lauded the efforts of the state authorities for ensuring free trade agreements with a diverse range of states, while also commending increased wine exports and expanding internet coverage within the country.
Georgian Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia on Tuesday highlighted the World Wine Trade Group, an organisation aiming to facilitate wine trade and promote international information-sharing and joint actions to remove trade barriers, as a “good platform” for “promoting and raising awareness” of Georgian wine.
The National Wine Agency will spend ₾2 million ($756,000) on promoting Georgian wine at international industry fairs and domestic events throughout 2023, the body said on Tuesday.
Georgian Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia said maintaining the international image of Georgian wine remained a “priority” for state institutions, in comments made during his visit to a Tbilisi wine laboratory on Thursday.
The Georgian National Wine Agency on Thursday said promotion of wine from the country on international markets would become “more active” this year, with ₾16 million ($6mln) allocated for the purpose from the state budget.
