The Georgian National Tourism Administration on Thursday said Condé Nast Traveler, the travel advice magazine of the New York-based publishing, had listed Georgia as one of the best places to spend Christmas and urged travellers to visit the country.

The outlet listed 32 select locations across the world, with Georgia's capital of Tbilisi mentioned alongside cities like London, Copenhagen and Hong Kong in the selection.

Author Caitlin Morton tells readers “decorations and festivities” for holidays began early in the country with “city-wide light displays, Christmas markets, and musical performances ready to dazzle visitors starting in December”.

She also notes Christmas is not formally celebrated in Tbilisi until January 7 due to the Georgian Orthodox Church's use of the Julian calendar.
