Lela Janashvili, the head of the Georgian Personal Data Protection Service, on Tuesday discussed organisational questions and cooperation with Leonardo Cervera-Navas, the Secretary General of the European Data Protection Supervisor institution.

The meeting in Brussels was focused on topics related to the representation of the Service within the European body, the national agency said.

Central to the discussions were “key matters” related to the support and collaboration between the two entities, especially on the backdrop of the country’s efforts to join the European Union.

Emphasis was also placed on the implementation of the recently enacted law on the personal data protection, reflecting the commitment to robust data protection practices, the body added.

The European Data Protection Supervisor institution is monitoring the application of the General Data Protection Regulation across EU member states. Its primary responsibility lies in supervising EU institutions and bodies to ensure proper processing of personal data.
