Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Parliament's Human Rights Committee, on Friday said Georgia had joined the ranks of states in which the protection of personal data would be implemented at the “highest level, at the European level”.
He noted the Law on Personal Data Protection, adopted on June 14, 2023, contained “effective” and “modern” data protection standards.
With the adoption of this law, a significant part of the obligations under the Association Agreement [signed with the European Union in 2014] was fulfilled [...] The implementation process is now very important”, he said.
Sarjveladze added the work of the Personal Data Protection Service was fully performed for the enforcement process, which also involved the supervision from the Parliament. He expressed home that as a result of “such close cooperation” the law would be implemented “as efficiently as possible”.
