Cooperation between Georgian and Poland and the European Council’s decision to grant Georgia the European Union membership candidate status were discussed on Monday in a phone call between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski.
The officials expressed their “readiness” for “close” cooperation in order to further deepen the ties between the two countries, the Georgian foreign office said.
The top Polish diplomat congratulated his Georgian counterpart on receiving the status, with the officials noting that the decision was a “recognition” of Georgia's aspirations, efforts and achieved progress.

Darchiashvili thanked Sikorski for Poland's “firm” support of Georgia's European aspirations.
The meeting also noted the importance of the Eastern Partnership format on Georgia’s European integration path.
The officials also reviewed close partnership relations between the two countries and “urgent matters” within bilateral and multilateral formats.
