Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Saturday said the European Union had acknowledged the importance of peace and stability in the Eastern Partnership countries of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, “otherwise Europe will not be at peace”.
In an interview with the Imedi TV channel, Botchorishvili noted “all disturbances, wars and hardships [in the Eastern Partnership region]” were “inevitably” affecting the EU.
It can be said that the next decade will be very important for a united Europe”, the Committee Chair emphasised, also stressing that the European Council’s decision to grant Georgia the EU membership candidate status was “a long-awaited European perspective for the country and a completely new geopolitical reality for the EU”.
Georgia obtained the EU candidate status on December 14, following the European Commission’s recommendation on November 8 to the European Council to grant the country the status.
