Cities and towns in 38 municipalities across Georgia have seen their public transport fleets bolstered with 51 new buses, with regions of Kvemo Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti in the central-eastern part of the country and Samtskhe-Javakheti in the south receiving the vehicles.
The Government Administration said on Wednesday the eight-metre-long Isuzu buses would start operating today under the decision by the Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, with the batch a part of a plan to add 154 buses to serve passengers across the country beyond capital Tbilisi.
A total of ₾53 million ($19.78mln) will be spent on the initiative.
Leri Barnabishvili, the Head of the Regional Liaison Department of the Government Administration, said the Euro 5-standard fleet would help solve problems of internal transportation for people in the municipalities.
He said new buses were designed for 47 passengers and adapted for people with disabilities, adding all new vehicles would be in operation by late February.
The initiative comes along with the purchase of 90 waste collection vehicles for various municipalities under a Government spending of over ₾33 million ($12.31mln), the Administration also said.
